w-iLab.t Mobile

The w-iLab.t Mobile testbed is run by the IBBT iLab.t Technology Centre and represents an exciting federation opportunity for the OneLab experimental facility. The testbed,  located in Gent, Belgium, provides researchers with the possibility of deploying their experiments under controlled mobility scenarios in an isolated environment. Controlled mobility comes through robots that roam in a 9m x 90m obstacle-free area. Coverage is controlled through signal attenuation and hence several handover scenarios can be created in a predictable manner by moving the mobile devices along predefined paths that can be easily reproduced. Isolation is achieved by locating the testbed five floors underground, in a parking garage, meaning that there is little radio-frequency interference from outside.

The testbed consists of 40 fixed devices and 20 robot-based devices and is currently (remotely) accessible to experimenters involved at the IBBT research programmes. Through federation with the OneLab experimental facility, these resources would be opened up to a much larger group of experimenters.
