Based in Italy, Alcatel-Lucent Italia SpA provides solutions that enable service providers, enterprises and governments worldwide, to deliver voice, data and video communication services to end-users. As a leader in fixed, mobile and converged broadband networking, IP technologies, applications, and services, Alcatel-Lucent offers the end-to-end solutions that enable compelling communications services for people at home, at work and on the move.

Some of the Research & Development activities in Italy involve Optics TMN and Solution Lab for Wireless networks trials; Two main locations are involved: Vimercate (Mi) and Battipaglia (Sa). In the first one is located the main infrastructure for demonstrations of wireless (WiMAX, UMTS and Wi-Fi including competences and capabilities for deployments and integrations) as for the scope of the project. In Battipaglia there is a large R&D team working mainly for Telecommunication Management Solutions and solutions for convergent networks. Alcatel Italia was active in the following projects: FP6-WEIRD, FP6-NOBEL2, FP6-Magnet Beyond and other national initiatives coordinated by the Technology Office and demonstrated in the solution lab as well. The overall objective of participation to innovation projects is the cooperation with customers and academies interested in the solutions of Alcatel-Lucent and in the real exploitation of studies and new ideas proposed by projects.
