Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems

Fraunhofer is the leading non-profit organization for institutes of applied research in Germany, undertaking contract research on behalf of industry, the service sector and the government. FOKUS, the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems, is one of the largest research labs in Europe dedicated to communication networks. In these areas, FOKUS is engaged in various research activates covering the aspects of multimedia signalling protocols, QoS control, network measurement, and testing. FOKUS is one of the driving forces for research in the new field of autonomic communication in Europe and co-founder of the Autonomic Communication Forum (ACF). FOKUS has multiple local test beds and is connected to PlanetLab, to the Berlin Mesh Network FreiFunk and test beds of partners from of various projects. The competence centre Network Research (NET) has long standing expertise in the development and operation of IP measurement technologies.

Role in the OneLab project:

Joining the project in its second phase (OneLab2), Fraunhofer FOKUS leads OneLab2 WP5 Packet Tracking. In this work project Fraunhofer will concentrate on the extension and deployment of currently standardised solutions in the packet tracking architecture. This includes data selection techniques, packet export and an IPFIX file format. Furthermore, Fraunhofer plans to contribute to the standardisation process by proposing flow selection techniques will develop a concept for synchronised data selection at multiple observation points. In addition to this, Fraunhofer contributes to OneLab2 WP8 Integrating SAC Networks in the establishment of testing environment for situated and autonomic communication (SAC) solutions. It provides basis measurement functions required for SAC operation and for the evaluation of SAC solutions.
