WP1 Integration

The objectives of WP1 Integration are to maintain, extend, validate and distribute the core platform codebase, through what is known as the OneLab Build of PlanetLab. Starting from the outcome of the first phase of the OneLab project, WP1 provides a wide set of new features, and ensures that the resulting software remains compatible and interoperable with the various other instances of PlanetLab-derived platforms around the world. The various releases will be delivered over time to WP2 Operations, which will deploy it on the PlanetLab Europe platform. The various activities that need to be carried out for this work package have been organised into five tasks:
  • Codebase management deals with daily activities of maintaining the development and software distribution infrastructure, and with various usability improvements;
  • Support for other work packages deals with the various needs that other work packages might exhibit as required over the course of the project;
  • Federation focuses on the development of new paradigms in the area of platform federation;
  • Reservation aims to provide reservation-based provisioning capabilities to the platform;
  • Emulation will enable richer and more integrated emulation features.

Three of these five tasks is lead by INRIA, the main partner for WP1, with the University of Pisa focusing on support for other work packages and emulation issues.
