University of Paderborn participates in the OneLab project with its Computer Networks Research Group and the Paderborn Centre for Parallel Computing (PC2); both are headed by Professor Holger Karl. The Computer Networks Group is a recently funded group (in autumn 2004); members of the group are currently participating, among other things, in the forthcoming EU FP7 IP 4WARD (and other projects like EU FP6 WASP and national projects like TANDEM and MIKOA). The group has, in addition, a considerable expertise in wireless and mobile research, for example in applying so-called cooperative transmission techniques to local and mesh networks. In this context, they operate a powerful, software-defined, radio-based testbed for WLAN environments with full access to physical and MAC layer. UPB joined the project in its second phase (OneLab2) and has a role that concentrates on realising virtualisation techniques to be used in the testbed, mainly working within WP7 Content.
