Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL)

Founded in 1425, UCL is the largest French-speaking university in Belgium. UCL currently has more than 20,000 students (including 4,000 foreign students), 3,000 teaching and research personnel, and 1,800 technical and administrative personnel. UCL hosts more than 1,000 external research contracts with an annual turnover of 70 million Euro and is the nucleus of an industrial park containing almost 100 companies.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is part of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, and is responsible for teaching and research in computer science. It has around 60 teaching and research personnel. The Department's involvement in networking is focussed on the development of protocols and mechanisms to provide better QoS in IP networks. Current research activities include the development of inter-domain traffic engineering techniques and a better characterisation of internet traffic. The Department is part of the E-Next Network of Excellence.

Role in the OneLab project:

Within the first phase of the project (OneLab1) UCL was responsible for the WiMAX software componant of Work Package 4 and also worked with UPMC on the topology information component.
