[September - December 2006]

For the first three months of OneLab1, the first phase of the OneLab project, WP3 Monitoring was headed by Intel Research Cambridge (IRC),  a  laboratory  that  has  subsequently  closed.  In December 2006 Quantavis took over IRC's responsibilities for heading WP3 and for developing the passive monitoring component WP3A.

Intel Research Cambridge was one of four labs in the Intel Research Network of University Labs, an innovative model of industry-university research designed to enhance and accelerate the results of long-term research projects by promoting collaboration and public domain research artifacts.

The lab was located on the campus of the University of Cambridge, close to the computer laboratory (the university's computer science department) and the Department of Engineering, with whom the Intel researchers collaborated closely.

Each lab in the network has a unique research focus. The focus of the Cambridge lab was on exploring new wireless and optical networking technologies; virtual machine technology; programming language and architecture; and ubiquitous computing.

The mission of Intel Research Cambridge - the first such lab established outside the U.S. by Intel - was to engage in open exploratory research in collaboration with universities in the UK and throughout the European Union.

Role in the OneLab project:
