Organized and coordinated by Belgian research institute IBBT, the “Future Internet Conference Week” took place in Ghent, Belgium, from 13-17 December 2010. It combined three key events in the European ICT calendar, the FIRE conference, ServiceWave 2010 and the Future Internet Assembly (FIA), and offered a programme of back-to-back conferences, meetings and workshops related to the digital society of the future.

OneLab had a strong presence at this event, taking part in the joint demonstration evening held by ServiceWave, FIA and FIRE, where on the OneLab stand researchers from key partners UPMC, CERTH, Fraunhofer and UAM demonstrated three of OneLab's federated testbeds: PlanetLab Europe, NICTA wireless testbed and ETOMIC high-precision measurement infrastructure.

Principal figures from OneLab were present on several panels and discussion groups as part of the FIRE conference, and Dr Thanasis Korakis of CERTH presented an important industrial use case as part of the session "Usages of FIRE facilities". His presentation, "OneLab: developing and operating testbeds for the Future Internet" (PDF pdf_button) introduced a use case presented by Diogo Joao Sousa Ferreira of Spanish telecommunications company Telefonica, "NITOS testbed - User case" (PDF pdf_button).

Professor Tanja Zseby, of Fraunhofer FOKUS, also gave a presentation during this session, entitled "Measurements in Onelab2" (PDF pdf_button).

The conference was attended by 2500 participants from all over Europe, including keynote speakers such as Peter Hirshberg (Silicon Valley executive, entrepreneur and marketing specialist), Neelie Kroes (European Commissioner for Digital Agenda) and Ben Verwaayen (CEO Alcatel-Lucent).
