The Informatics and Telematics Institute (ITI) of CERTH was founded in 1998 as a non-profit research organization under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Development. Since March 2000, it is incorporated in the new Centre for Research and Technology, Hellas. The main goal of the Institute is to achieve scientific and research excellence in its areas of interest by developing the appropriate conditions. ITI has also set up spin-off companies aimed at commercial exploitation of ITI's research results. The scientific areas of ITI include Data Communications and Computer Networks, Multimedia and Internet Technologies, New Media Representation and Access: Standards and Methods, Virtual Reality, Tele-Medicine Applications, 2D and 3D Digital and Interactive Television, Educational and Cultural Technologies. CERTH-ITI joined the project in its second phase (OneLab2) and plays an important role in the project, leading OneLab2 WP6 Wireless, developing a Wi-Fi test bed and contributing also to OneLab2 WP7 Content. The key personnel involved in the project are highly experienced and well-recognised researchers. They assist the development of an experimentation platform enabling researchers to experiment and validate work on wireless technologies based on the IEEE 802.11 standard, such as wireless LAN, Mesh and ad-hoc networks from the Application down to the MAC layer as well as work related to the new emerging publish-subscribe network paradigm.
